Fair Use Policy

Last updated June 12, 2026.

This Fair Use Policy (“Policy”) is Purple IQ’s acceptable use policy. It is part of our Terms of Use and should be read alongside them, and it applies to our website at https://www.purpleiq.com, the search engine it serves, and any related products and services that refer or link to this Policy (together, the “Services”). By using the Services you agree to this Policy; if you do not agree with it, please do not use the Services.

The spirit of the whole document is one sentence: unlimited plans are unlimited for people. Your account page says “go wild, within reason.” This page is the within reason.

The short version

  • Search as much as you like, yourself. Every search a person types, taps, or dictates is fair use: heavy research days, late-night rabbit holes, work projects, all of it. Section 2
  • Robots are not people. Scripts, scrapers, bots, and AI agents are not covered by any plan, and Purple IQ is not a free backend for someone else’s product. Section 2
  • Family seats are for your household. Each person gets their own sign-in and settings. Seats and accounts are not for resale or for handing around. Section 3
  • Don’t pick the locks. No bypassing search limits or security, no harvesting results into datasets, no reverse engineering, no breaking things. Section 4
  • If something looks off, we talk first. Accounts that look automated get slowed down and emailed. No silent bans, and a human reviews it if we got it wrong. Section 5

This summary is a map, not a substitute: the numbered sections below are the policy. Each link above jumps to the section that governs it.

1. Who we are

We are Purple IQ, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), a company registered in Colorado, United States, at 1801 Broadway, Suite 1225, Denver, CO 80202. We operate the Services described above: a subscription search engine paid for by the people who use it, with no ads and no tracking.

2. What does “unlimited” mean?

In short: No allowance for a person searching. Not an API for a machine.

On unlimited plans there is no metered search allowance: every search a person types, taps, or dictates is covered. Heavy research days, late-night rabbit holes, a hundred tabs: all of it is exactly what the plan is for. Searching for work counts as normal use too: “a person searching” is the test, not “personal use.”

What “unlimited” does not cover is searching that no person is doing. Queries generated by scripts, scrapers, bots, AI agents, or any other automated process are not covered by any plan, and neither is wiring Purple IQ up as the search backend, data source, or component of another product or service. Every search has a real cost to serve, and automation at machine speed is a different product, not a bigger version of this one.

To keep automated use from degrading the product for everyone else, accounts are rate-limited at speeds comfortably above human searching. A person will essentially never notice the limit; a script will hit it immediately.

3. Family seats and account sharing

In short: Seats are for the people in your household, each with their own sign-in. Accounts are not for sale.

Family plans exist so that each person in your household has their own sign-in, their own settings, and their own allowance. Seats on a family plan are for members of your household, not for selling, renting, or distributing to people outside it.

Accounts are personal. You may not sell or otherwise transfer your account or any seat on your plan, share your sign-in with others, or provide access to the Services to any third party, except by giving the people in your household their own seats on a family plan.

4. What may you not do?

In short:Don’t scrape it, don’t resell it, don’t bypass the meters, don’t break it for everyone else.

When you use the Services, you warrant that you will comply with this Policy and with all applicable laws and regulations. You also agree that you will not:

  • Systematically retrieve search results or other content from the Services to create or compile, directly or indirectly, a collection, compilation, dataset, database, or directory without written permission from us.
  • Access or use the Services through any automated means (including scripts, robots, scrapers, spiders, offline readers, AI agents, or similar data gathering and extraction tools) other than ordinary web browser use and the search-engine indexing we permit in our robots file.
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with security-related or metering-related features of the Services, including features that enforce search allowances, rate limits, or other limitations on use of the Services or their content, for example by rotating accounts, identifiers, or network addresses to dodge allowances.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or create an undue burden on the Services or on the networks and infrastructure connected to them.
  • Upload or transmit viruses, Trojan horses, or other material that interferes with any party’s uninterrupted use of the Services, or that modifies, impairs, disrupts, alters, or interferes with the operation or maintenance of the Services.
  • Trick, defraud, or mislead us or other users, including impersonating another person, creating accounts under false pretenses or by automated means, attempting to learn sensitive account information such as other users’ sign-in codes, misusing our support channels, or submitting false reports of abuse.
  • Harass, intimidate, or threaten any of the people involved in providing the Services to you.
  • Copy, adapt, decipher, decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer any of the software making up the Services, or attempt to reconstruct our source code, ranking, or algorithms by any means, except as expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Republish, redistribute, retransmit, or resell any portion of the Services or their results, or use them to build, train, power, or improve a competing product or service, without our prior written consent. Using what you find in your own work and research is, of course, what the Services are for.
  • Use any information obtained from the Services in order to harass, abuse, or harm another person.
  • Delete or alter copyright or other proprietary rights notices from any content obtained through the Services.
  • Engage in unauthorized framing of or linking to the Services. (Linking to Purple IQ the way websites normally link to each other is always welcome.)
  • Intercept data not intended for you, or damage, reveal, or alter another user’s data or anything else belonging to another person.
  • Use the Services in any manner inconsistent with applicable laws or regulations.

5. What happens if this Policy is breached?

In short: We slow things down and email you before anything drastic. No silent bans.

If an account’s usage looks automated, we may slow it down, and we will email you. No silent bans: if we ever get it wrong, reply and a human sorts it out. That is our standard approach whenever circumstances reasonably allow it.

If a breach is serious, or if breaches of this Policy or our Terms of Use continue after a warning, we have the right to suspend or terminate your access to and use of the Services and, if applicable, to disable your account. Where we believe there is a genuine risk to an individual or a threat to public safety, we may also notify law enforcement or take legal action.

We exclude our liability for all action we may take in response to any of your breaches of this Policy.

The 30-day refund promise in our Terms of Use applies here the same as everywhere else.

6. Do we make updates to this Policy?

In short: When the rules change, the date at the top changes.

We may update this Policy from time to time, for example if the plans change or the law does. The updated version will be indicated by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change would materially restrict what your paid plan covers, we will email you before it takes effect, the same way our Terms of Use promise for changes that affect paid subscriptions.

7. How can you contact us about this Policy?

If you have questions or comments, including if you think we have flagged your account unfairly, email us at hello@purpleiq.com, use our contact page, or write to:
